You are a genius. I never thought of pepper spry or anything like it as a defense against someone Nicole was afraid of. You are right. No two ways about it.
Nicole was afraid of knives. She had had a maid who could do anything in the kitchen that required cutting. If the maid had the day off it’s likely that Nicole would have asked her in advance to do any cutting that she anticipated or asked another adult who was with her to do it. But if she feared for her safety she would have kept SOMETHING other than a sharp instrument handy to defend herself. There is no way she would have gone out of her house without a weapon to meet a man she feared would kill her and there is no way the police would overlooked that weapon in their search. –Jasper
