In Dianne Sawyer’s 1997 interview with Fuhrman on 20/20 she asked him why no one else saw the evidence he said he saw. Fuhrman said, “Not true. Brad Roberts saw it.”
Sawyer then spoke with Roberts who confirmed everything Fuhrman said and added a little of his own commentary about it. He said that he had no idea why he wasn’t called to testify. He was a rookie detective (Det I) so it is unlikely that he was involved in anything where his cover might be blown and his statement that he didn’t know why he wasn’t called suggests that there was no legitimate reason that he wasn’t.
Fuhrman claimed that it was because Lange and Vannatter screwed up by not reading his notes (Pat V.’s letter) and Marcia wanted to save them the embarrassment. However, Fuhrman went out of his way to hid Roberts as his partner and did so by saying that Ron Phillips was his partner. He said that Phillips was his partner in the preliminary hearing and mentioned Roberts name only after Phillips testified in O.J.’s trial that he was not Fuhrman’s partner. Even then he called Roberts his “regular partner” in a way that suggested they were not partners on the 13th. O.J.’s defense never caught on to the fact that Roberts was partnered with Fuhrman on the 13h and Fuhrman did nothing to correct that impression. –Jasper
