Jasper, In my case, this was a real dog. I had played around that dog almost everyday. It was a 'fixture' in the neighborhood.
I forgot to say that although I was startled by what I saw and surprised, I was unafraid. If I had been afraid, I would have called to or run to my parents in the next room.
Btw, this house was w/in "spitting distance" from the Columbus Airport which you are probably familiar with.
This house is also where I had an "out of body" experience while being very ill with the measles. That was the only time I ever had an experience like that.
