If Kato went down the path “in the weeks” prior to the murders to let Arnelle into her room, that could be very significant.
Fuhrman made a point of saying that he ran into cobwebs just past the spot where he found the glove, which indicated to him that no one gone past that point recently. The cobwebs were a tricky point with me when I was writing Iago because I couldn’t find pictures of the cobwebs for a long time to support Fuhrman’s story. Then, on some program (I don’t recall which) I did see a picture of them. Because Fuhrman said that he ran into them, the fact that they did not block the path in the photo did not contradict his story and I had to include a bracketed note that they were there.
The question now is WHEN where they there? When did they blocking the path (if ever) and when were they cleared out of the way?
To get to Arnelle’s room, Kato would have had to go past them. If Kato made up that story there was no need to mention Arnelle. In fact, there was no need to make up the story. All it does is give ammunition to anyone who wanted to accuse him of being somehow involved with the murders – as a killer setting up his story of the thumps or as an accomplice of O.J. As the killer, one could argue that he went down the path prior to the murders to find an ideal place to plant the glove and to make sure the story of the thumps would correspond to the lay of the land. As an accomplice to O.J., one could argue that he invented the thumps as well as the story of going down the path to create the illusion that someone other than O.J. entered the property from the alley.
On the other hand, if he was telling the truth, it means that he was only trying to be thorough in telling everything he could think of about all of his trips to the path.
I am certain that Brad Roberts planted the glove. I said so in Iago and everything that I have learned since then has supported that contention. Remember the question, “Where was Roberts?” While the four detectives were “trying to notify” O.J. of Nicole’s death, a uniformed cop was standing by the Rockingham gate. Another uniformed cop was roving between the front and back of the house on the Ashford side. If these cops were really posted there as guards to catch someone trying to escape the house, the only unguarded place was in the alley. But if police were posted as guards around the estate, the ally would have also been covered. Who would have been available to do it? Brad Roberts.
That brings us back to Fuhrman’s story of the cobwebs blocking the south path after the murders vs. Kato’s story of going down the south path before the murders to open Arnelle’s widow. This is another example of new information (for me) that fits a theory (Roberts went down the south path to plant the glove) after the theory was proposed vs. speculation to explain away new information that doesn’t fit the theory. Kato’s story of going down the path before the murders doesn’t prove that Fuhrman lied about the cobwebs to cover Robert’s rout to the drop site but it does raise another issue where Kato’s story and Fuhrman’s conflict. How many conflicts does it take? –Jasper
