Possible but not likely. If there were no cobwebs blocking his path there would have been no reason for him to do anything other than what he said he did – walked down the path. If cobwebs did block his path it would have been easier for him to duck under them or brush them aside than to try to walk the fence.
Kato was specific in the criminal trial about what he encountered along that path on the 12th. He said that he didn’t like to go back there because it was dark and scary (an indication that he had been back there before – now we know why). He included every detail that impeded his progress or caused him concern. On the night of the murders he described wresting with the broken fence nearest the garage to lift it out of the way. He described going to the second fence but not opening it. He had a poor flashlight but even a poor light would have glinted off a spider web like a reflector lens on a car. It wasn’t a spider web that stopped Kato; it was the darkness.
Given those details, it seems unlikely to me that Kato would not have mentioned the cobwebs if he had to do anything to get past them when he went to Arnelle’s window. And the fact that Fuhrman did mention them is just too damn convenient. --Jasper.
