Fuhrman said that he ran into the cobwebs. He said that they hit him in the face. He said that he was walking in a crouch at the time – not that he crouched to avoid disturbing the cobwebs. If he had walked into them they would have been destroyed.
The picture of the cobweb that I saw did not span the path. In fact, the width of the path was not shown. The picture showed only a bunch of cobwebs on the side of the building. There were no pictures of an intact web. All we have is Fuhrman’s word that his face made contact with cobwebs as he was walking down the path.
It is also inconceivable to me that Kato would have lied to Eliot about a point that could easily have been checked out, but I don’t see anything incriminating in that. To arrive at the conclusion that Kato told the truth only to avoid getting caught in a lie you have to start with that assumption and stop there.
The case had not been resolved when Eliot began taping Kato’s story. Kato was under pressure from both sides NOT to write a book about the case. If he had gone though with the project he could have gone to jail for perjury because he said under oath that he did not write such a book. That was true. But if he had okayed the book when Eliot wanted him to it would not have been true.
Yes, Kato tried to profit from his role in the case with a book deal -- just as Vannatter, Lange, Fuhrman, Faye Resnick, Ron Shipp, Robert Shapiro, Johnnie Cochran, Robert Heidstra, Paula Barbieri and some jury members did. The truth remains; he didn’t write the book, he didn’t co-write it, he didn’t okay it and he didn’t seek to get it published before the criminal trial ended. Marc Eliot did....
As for a guard on the Salinger’s side of the fence is concerned, none was necessary. Anyone coming from O.J.’s house would have had to leave the area by the front, the Ashford side or the back. –Jasper
