I don’t think it’s necessary to explain yourself in this regard. The question was whether Kato could have gotten past the cobwebs without disturbing them if they were there two weeks before the murders. To narrow down the possibilities you first have to consider all of the possibilities. Only after you have excluded the impossibilities can you begin to consider which of the remains possibilities is most probable. Sometimes what appears to be the least probable at first becomes the most probable when you work though the other options. Ironically, that’s what makes John’s contributions so uniquely valuable.
You known in advances that if John sees anything that seems at first glace to be incorrect or incoherent, he will pounce all over it. If we really did miss something, you can bet that he will find it. You have to ignore his rudeness. That’s just his cyberspace persona. If you talked to him on the phone you’d get a little of that act and a lot of a really nice guy.
We now know exactly when Kato went down the path to Arnelle’s window. If the spider web was intact at that time it gives credence to Fuhrman’s story of having run into “cobwebs” on the 13th. But if we have only Fuhrman’s word that they sprung up to hit him in the face in two weeks time or less, his story becomes less plausible. It was also shortly before Fuhrman went over the wall without a search warrant that he found a court case (People vs. Caine) that justified it. Without that court case nothing the Fuhrman and Roberts found inside of O.J.’s Rockingham estate could have been used to prosecute him.
We still have no good answer for why Fuhrman was on the path by himself for so long with a penlight, why he couldn’t tell F. Lee Bailey whether or not he drew his gun or why he said the second gate was open when Kato said it was closed. Now that I think of it (thanks to your question about the possibility of Kato going around the web by way of the fence) I don’t see how Fuhrman could have hit a cobweb with his face. It’s the same situation that Kato was in the night before. A spider web reflects light like crazy. Shine a light anywhere near one in the dark and it coruscates like tinsel on a Christmas tree. Fuhrman would not have run into it. He would have seen it. Kato saw only darkness. –Jasper
