A few things to consider here. If the cobwebs were on the other side of the air conditioner, they may not have reflected in the light of the flashlight while Fuhrman walked down the path because the air conditioner blocked the view. Fuhrman would have to crouch down to get under the air conditioner to continue down the path. He may have hit cobwebs when he came up on the other side (hence in his face). Spiders have seem to weave their webs near corners made by protruding objects. From what I've seen around here, spiders can weave their webs overnight. I will walk out to the patio and hit a few most mornings, however in a area that sees traffic, the webs do not build up. Other areas, they do and are mostly, close to the corners or between objects.
You can find a picture that shows the other side of the air conditioner on Dick's site in the article "Simpson's Back Walkway" (Figure 17). It has an indication where Arnelle's window would be. (At least one of the windows, as we can not see further down the pathway to know if their are more.) Unfortunately, the picture is from when the Rockingham house was sold. It does give some idea of the area though.
I am making progress on putting together a CD of the many pictures Dick accumulated over the years in this case. I will send it to you as soon as I get it done. Maybe there will be something in these pictures that will assist your research.
I also think Kato testified to entering through the Rockingham gate most of the time but I did not have time to check his testimony.
