I don’t think that the air conditioner blocking the view is a good explanation for not seeing the spider web with a flashlight.
(Murder in Brentwood, page 32): “Directly above the glove was an air conditioning unit that protruded from the wall about two feet and was braced underneath with 2 X 4 studs.”
Isn’t this the most likely place for Fuhrman to have run into cobwebs? That’s why I asked about different kinds of spiders in the area. Fuhrman said that he was past the air conditioner when his face hit the cobwebs. But if he really meant that he ran into them under the air conditioner (the glove was photographed in front of it, not under it) his view of it would not have been blocked. If he meant what he said, you get other problems.
For instance, I was looking for a spider in Brentwood that spins a web across expanses like a portion of the house that doesn’t protrude and the fence or vegetation along the fence across from it. The only spider web I’ve ever seen like that was in Southeast Asia. I have no idea how long it took to make. But the more I get into this the less difference it seems to make. A better question is how long was it there?
(Pages 32-33) “Within my first few steps past the air conditioner, my face hit cobwebs. Since I was slightly crouched, lower than most people would stand, I concluded that whoever dropped the glove did not continue walking down this path.” He’s not talking here about “cobwebs” hanging from the corner of anything. He’s talking about a spider web that blocked the path right in front of eyes with nothing to obstruct his vision as far as he could shine his light. If he hadn’t been walking the way he described he would not have been able to get under the air conditioner. If his story is true, he had to have been looking as far ahead as possible. (Page 32): “I was in a dangerous position, halfway down a path that a murder suspect had possibly used. Should I turn back or go forward?”
Now you have to ask why he stayed in a crouch for the “first FEW steps past the air conditioner.” His first step past it would have been enough for him to know that he wouldn’t bash his head if he stood up. Standing “slightly crouched” with his flashlight on would not make him less of a target for a potential bushwhacker. The only good explanation I can think of for him to be in that position is to claim that his face hit cobwebs. If they had not hit him in the face, he would not have noticed them until he found them on his clothes. Bye-bye theory of no one walking further down the path.
I am looking forward to the CD.
I’d also like to know where Kato said he entered the property through the Rockingham gate most of the time. I can’t think of why he would do that and I can’t find it in the transcripts. -Jasper
