Trying to track down that missing pair of Bruno Magli’s is an exercise in frustration. By the way I should have said that all but one of the SIZE TWELVE Bruno Magli Lorenzos was accounted for. That’s the only size that counts. Neither the prosecution nor the defense showed the slightest interest in revealing which Bloomingdale’s store in the country they were missing from or when the loss was discovered.
The Lorenzos were last sold in 1992. O.J. looked at a pair late in that year but didn’t buy them. If the loss showed up earlier than that it would have worked for the prosecution to argue that he didn’t buy them because he already had a pair. If it showed up later it would have worked for the defense to argue that the killer or one of his associates was watching O.J. at the time and stole a pair from another sore to incriminate him in the murders.
The trouble is, “missing” doesn’t necessarily mean “stolen.” A buyer could have made an inventory counting error or the manufacturer might have failed to ship all of the Lorenzos on order. Without knowing when and where the loss was discovered you can’t even refine the speculation to say that the “missing” Lorenzos were the ones that left the bloody shoeprints on Bundy. Hundreds of shoes with different brand names could have left the same imprints. No one ever tried to account for them. –Jasper
