Now those who know Dick Wagner from this website or the AFOJS newsgroup, must know that he was always the diligent researcher. He never missed a chance to study, conduct experiments and verify all aspects of this case. He was tenacious in his search for the truth about what happened on Bundy that night in June of 1994.
Did any of you really think he would die and not tell us whether or not OJ committed these crimes?
Several months before his death, as we lay in bed having our usual pillow talk, the topic turned to whether the dead could communication with the living. I'm the one who brought the subject up. "Sweetheart," I asked, "if you die before me, I want you to send me a sign that you are okay." He sighed with frustration and replied, "I don't know if that is possible to do and you would be disappointed if you did not get a sign." Being somewhat persistent at times, I continued to talk about the subject and commented that I would really like to know whether or not OJ killed Nicole and Ron.
We discussed the idea of Dick trying to send a sign, if he could from the next world. We talked about specific signs to indicate guilt or innocence. I chose the possum as a sign OJ did not do it and the green parrot (like those who parrot what the media tells them) as a sign that OJ was the murderer. I figured the possum would not be an animal I would seek out in any way to prove Dick was right. They are rather ugly creatures and a bit scary to come across. A possum had been seen around the neighborhood a few times over the years. Dick had seen it twice, but I had never seen a possum in the eight months I have been here in Van Nuys. Then there were the green parrots that come through the neighborhood, usually but not always in the early morning, but I had never seen them either. So that night we decided that if Dick died, he would try to send me a sign about OJ's guilt or innocence. A green parrot would mean OJ was guilty. A possum would mean OJ had not committed the crimes. Either sign would mean Dick was okay since he was able to send a sign. Then we continued on with our lives, never mentioning this conversation again.
The night Dick had the fatal heart attack, a family friend drove my car to follow the ambulance to the hospital, as I was too distraught to drive. Then after we were told that Dick died, she drove me back to the house and pulled into the driveway where I always parked my car. There in the driveway was a possum. The possum walked toward the east fence, turned toward me, stared for a few seconds and then it ambled off toward the neighbor's house. The possum has not been seen since.
In the initial weeks after Dick's death, I savored this story, telling only family and close friends. I searched my memory to be absolutely sure what the possum meant and today there is no doubt in my mind that the possum was a message from Dick that OJ did not commit these murders. For those of you that have wondered and those who have believed someone else committed this crime, the answer is still out there and WE WILL FIGURE IT OUT.
