As for dreams. Don't take too much stock in what the books say. Much better that you think of what a particular thing means to you. One thing to do is ask yourself about each object in a dream this way. "I am a chair and how do I feel." or "what does chair mean to me" If the book thing fits then use it, but dreams are more personal than that.
