Another trait of the sociopath/psychopath is that they put themselves out as some kind of expert. It might be an expert in baseball facts or any other thing. Fuhrman has put himself out as an expert detective. He doesn't want to be caught but he is forced almost beyond his will to "show off" his detective skills. But the more he talks the more trouble he gets himself into or the more info is given. As Jean found in one of his later books, he admits at the very beginning that he was in the crime scene at Bundy at or around 4Am --just by talking. It is like it never dawns on him that he has testified that he was not.
