The blue jean jacket that Riske testified to proves that someone other than Ron, Nicole and the kids were in the house shortly before the murders – somebody important. But the reason that person was so important didn’t have to be because he occupied an important official position. I am confident that his importance rests on his association with Mark Fuhrman. I have little doubt that it was Fuhrman’s partner Brad Roberts, and one of the reasons in was so important for everyone on the prosecution team to hid the fact that he was Fuhrman’s partner on the morning after the murders..
Daryl Gates never did any of his own dirty work. However, you can bet that he had a big stake in anything involving Fuhrman’s investigation of Nicole’s murder just because of his past association with him and with Heidi Fleiss. The reason for the murders didn’t have to have anything to do with Gates but the fact that someone did murder her put Gates in a position where he had to defend Fuhrman whether he wanted to or not. If Fuhrman went down for any serious charge there would be nothing to keep him from spilling his guts about Gates’ involvement in a host of crimes, possibly including a death squad that Gates ran in the late ’70s.
Prien was the one who said that someone higher up had to give the order not to call the coroner. He and I went around on this for a long time.
Prien thought that Lt. Spangler’s order to Phillips not to call the coroner at 3:35 or so was proof that the order came from higher up, which in turn proved that the murder/frame-up was a high level police conspiracy. I said that by the time Phillips ANNOUNCED in Spangler’s presence that he was going to call the coroner the issue was already moot. By then there was no way that the coroner could fix time of death to within an hour (see High :Points). The entire issue was a show to make it appear that Phillips was trying to do his job but his superiors wouldn’t let him.
If Phillips had wanted to call the coroner he could have gone directly to the murder scene hours earlier and made the call on his own authority while West LA was still in charge of the case. Fuhrman could have done it when he got there at 2:10. When Phillips announced that he was going to call the coroner he knew that he had been relieved of duty and it was now up to the Robbery/Homicide Division to make the call.
To me the most important fact is that the investigation didn’t start until the lead investigator arrived. Fuhrman was the lead investigator. Before the murders he told Phillips not to call him until after 1:00. Fuhrman’s delay in reaching the scene and making the call reduced the value of coroner notification to zero. –Jasper
