This is why I made three animations. One (Kato’s Walk) shows the event as Kato, Park and O.J describe it with no conflicts. The other two (Marcia’s Story 1 and Marcia’s Story 2) show two interpretations of Marcia Clark’s story Park seeing O.J. coming from the south path by way of Park’s slightly different descriptions in the preliminary hearing and then in the criminal trial.
That’s why the correct scale and proportion of the driveway is critical and why it’s important to note when and where Park said that he FIRST saw Kato and when and where he said that he first saw O.J.
Park consistently testified that he saw O.J. on the driveway at the end of the short walk to his front door. At first he says that he saw O.J. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY after Kato stopped briefly at the intersection of the north path and the driveway, waved at him and continued south. Then he says that he saw O.J. WITHIN SECONDS of seeing Kato.
The trouble with both interpretation (according to Marcia) is that if Park had seen O.J. for the first time that night coming from the south path Kato would have either seen him, too or bumped into him on the driveway. Kato didn’t see O.J. until he came back from the south path the second time. When he came back from the south path the first time he let Park in the gate, asked him about an earthquake, etc then went back to the south path. This is when O.J. came out of the house with his bags packed and Park started loading them into the limo.
My conclusion O.J. came out of the house as he said he did and Park didn’t see him coming out (a four or five second lapse) because he was looking at Kato. He saw O.J. go BACK inside. It’s the only scenario that fits the time and motion of the men involved according to the time of Park’s call to his boss and the statements of all three men.
When the jury asked for a portion of Park’s testimony to be read back the pundits speculated on the reason. They were all wrong. The jurors said that it was because one juror recalled a portion of his testimony differently than the rest of them did. The issue was whether Park didn’t see the Bronco when he first arrived because it wasn’t there or because he wasn’t paying attention to it. They were looking to see if his powers of observation conformed to the physical evidence that they could confirm.
Only one car was parked in O.J.’s driveway when Park was there. He “recalled” seeing two (he saw a photo of O.J.’s Bentley and Arnelle’s SAAB on the driveway before he testified). He did not recall seeing the Bronco when he arrived OR when he left. –Jasper
