I'm not so sure about honest either. If you testify to something you know you are not dependable about, well that's not very honest. If you are a key witness in a trial and you are that confused, I mean he got almost everything wrong, and a man's life is at stake.
I think Kari might be right about him being high on something. I have the impression that he saw things and heard things, sort of floating around, and tried to catch them and had them landing in the wrong spot. Like the cars, one too many in the driveway - a couple too few on the street. Like who said something about oversleeping and who waived to him.
