I’m with you. We know Rose well enough to know that her possum story is true and as accurate in every respect as she can make it. We know that it's okay with her if we share her opinions about it or we don’t. We appreciate the fact that she respects us enough to share something so weird and personal with us because of our common passion for the truth and to seek our opinions.
John gave his opinion. He did it badly.
I’m not worried, about Rose. She’s smart. She’s tough. She’s resilient. There are times that she is going to cry or want to cry but she is going to be all right.
Don’t know about John. He’s really a good guy who is sometimes short on tact. (I can see it now – I don’t need you to defend me, Jasper! We’re all supposed to be grown-ups here!). I like John. I think he sees his curtness as being honest without wasting time trying to dress it up. When he starts getting as rude, crude and insensitive as he has been since Dick Wagner’s death, I start to worry about his health. Maybe his blood sugar is acting up. Maybe Dick’s death affected him more deeply than he is willing to admit to himself. I hope he’s okay… and I expect him to tell me how wrong I am about everything. –Jasper
