You forgot one thing that changes everything and makes a good reason that all his plans may have changed. Scott told Lacy that he had cheated on her. For him to do that just before Christmas, I would bet that he thought someone else was going to tell her. Don't know.
But I can see that after going thru that, he would forget the present and Lacy must have also as she did not tell the family they forgot it. So it is understandable that he might decide to go fishing and get away from it all.
Henry lee said on TV that 75% of married men cheat, so it puts Scott in the norm. I can agree with Lee. Being a divorcee for a long time, it was astounding how many married men asked me out. And one in particular, said his wife was in the hospital in labor, so it was our chance to go out. He was one of the most respected family men in the group that I worked with, I will never forget it.
Lacy may have even been picked to murder cause Scott had cheated on her and there fore easy to frame and for the public to dislike. Just like OJ.
