It was also a prosecute-but-don’t-execute case. A double homicide that was carried out in in 1994 with premeditation and in a particularly heinous fashion was punishable by death under a “special circumstances” provision of California law. The gloves alone show premeditation and the heinousness of the crime speaks for itself.
Didn’t it stake you as odd that Garcetti ruled out the death penalty so quickly after Freeh’s “out of the blue” announcement about innocent people getting killed because one government agency didn’t know what another agency was doing? How can you not consider communication breakdowns between federal, state, and local law enforcement entities?
Sherman Skolnick’s revelation about the DEA surveillance tape of the murder also struck me as odd. The first time I heard the details, I dismissed it out of hand (BIG mistake to dismiss anything out of hand in this case) because I knew those things couldn’t be true.. When you look at the layout of the killing ground and study the autopsy report you can see that such a tape could not have been made with Mack and Lange as the killers.
On the other hand, a corollary to getting people to accept a lie slipped into a lot of obvious facts is to get people to reject the truth by infusing it with a lot of fiction. This is a classic disinformation technique. By supplying Skolnick with the truth that’s hard to verify AND misinformation that is easy to identify, the DEA could discredit Skolnick altogether and derail further inquiry into the Heidi connection to the Bundy case.
Look at what you get when you toss out the baby with the bath water…. You get to feed various theories of a government conspiracy to commit the murders that branch out forever and take you in circles. You get a variety of organized drug hit theories (the Mob, the Yakuza, the Jamaicans, etc.) that lead you away from Garcetti, York, Dial AND Fuhrman. You get theories that also branch out forever, instead of narrowing the possibilities How many people do you think are as savvy as you are in picking up on the REAL links between Garcetti’s illegal wiretapping, the witness protection program, Constance Dial’s “renegade” drug operatives and Margaret York’s role in IAD? --Jasper
