That's what I think, Chandler. People would or should have come forward.
There was a very big suspicious and afraid atmosphere in that neighborhood after the murders. Even a good while later when Dick went there and took photos, etc., he said he noticed that it was still there then and that had been a couple of years.
A few people who did drive by--did come forward. The woman on her way home from the dinner party and past Nicole's and saw nothing, etc.
I have always questioned about these cars going by that Heistra saw at 1045 that came from in front of Nicole's because at that moment--and a bit before -they could easily have witnessed something in front of the condo.
And I do mean easily.
We learned (way too late for the criminal trial) from Dr. Lee finally getting photos that were not cropped of other important info---that there were 7 blood drops out on the front sidewalk in front of Bundy. These were not taken as samples...but they do appear in the full photos. Lee said it was as if someone stood there with a knife dripping. They were in a row--a short row--as if they got flung there. Not a big pattern but less than a foot I would say.
That's means somebody stood out front with a dripping knife or a bleeding hand ON the front sidewalk at some point.
With people driving past, a person could easily be seen. The woman who was driving home from dinner said her headlights swung across the front of Nicole's condo when she turned onto Bundy.
There were probably more. The woman leaving the house down the street (the woman with the two watches)--she was on that street about 1025 or so. I am sure that there were others.
I think there was something about this murder that the folks in Brentwood did not want to come forward.
I was surprised to learn at some point that several of the time witneses actually knew each other and knew each other well.
I think that like with Heidstra and Rosa and others --the people were intimidated--and perhaps even threatened in some way not to come forward.
