Sometimes the computer gets in the way of the solution in many things, but since it gives us speed toward a solution, sometimes an illusion, it becomes a crutch for us.
I find this is the case in my astrology work. I got an old computer which I only use to make charts, that are often a bit off. If I make them by hand it takes a lot more time, but I can see what is going on in a lot of areas that I miss with a computer chart. I miss important things that happened on the days surronding the day in question, which may be more important than the time of the chart.
But I find myself relying more and more on the computer, even thought I can do a more accurate chart by hand and get a lot more information by using books instead.
Unfortunately they are not teaching workers what to do when the hitech fails them. I have had to teach several people how to count change in order to get my change back. Some of my value as an x-ray technition was that if certain machine failures occured, I could still function as I learned it the old fashioned way.
I fear that so much realience on computers is actually affecting the younger genration's ability to find common sense solution to problems.
Much of the reasoning that went into knowing that OJ was framed was just commom sense.
