Considering Darden’s “quantum leap” that Miss Marple found (don’t know how I missed it) and some of the other “mistakes” he made during the trial, maybe he didn’t simply breath a sigh of relief that an innocent man was not convicted. Maybe he worked very hard to achieve that result. –Jasper
