Some of my best "insights" about the OJ case have been from movie plots or from mystery plots.
In What Matters Most by Cynthia Victor is where I got the flash that Rachel might have been deliberately removed from the condo that night.
This was the one where the parents were killed in an "accidental" gas leak explosion while the children were spending the night with a neighbor.
It was more than a year after the deaths when someone inquired--that they found out that these neighbors came out of nowhere (weren't really friends) to offer to take the children that night for an overnight.
It was then learned --with that info--that the deaths were not accidental at all. Nobody really investigated the explosion because on the surface--nothing appeared to be wrong or out of the ordinary.
And investigations are RARELY like Murder She Wrote or Diagnosis Murder or Columbo before that.
One of the most puzzling REAL murder situations I have ever learned of was on one of those cable shows where they tell of a murder and how it was solved. It was one where the guy was finally caught for murdering his wife--whom he claimed just moved out and went away. They later learned that was the 3rd wife who had moved out and went away. He had killed all three. Even with the cops involved --nobody ever questioned him much about it.
And it isn't a matter of "making a mistake' in many cases--it is lack of interest or a mindset by the cops that either pounces on the wrong guy or will let a flagrant killer go free.
Cops aren't nearly the curious, investigative people that they have been portrayed in books and movies. Usually that is NOT the case.
