There is a current news story about a Kelly Chrisman (LAPD) cop who is on paid leave--he used the LAPD databases to look up celebs and may have sold stories to the tabs.
He did this starting in 1994. Some of the folks he looked up were OJ Simpson, Nicole Brown Simpson, Dionne Warwick....and other sports figures and stars.
He was found out with a lawsuit (for stalking) by Cyndi GARVEY when he used the database to stalk her from residence to residence.
He SAYS he was ordered to do so by the LAPD but no record of it can be found. He says he was "mapping" the locations of celebs residences but he also looked up criminal records, divorce records, etc.
Like the Rampart case, they are deliberating alternating the dates that this happened. In the original story and others--it says from 94 and then others says in 97. I go for 94 because Nicole Brown Simpson was way gone by 97.
And the KICKER? His lawyer is Chris Darden.
