I would have discounted the story of Nicole being afraid of knives if it hadnt come from Nicoles cousin Rolf Baur and if O.J. had denied it. O.J. did not deny it. Nobody did. Ron Shipps claim that Nicole told him she thought getting killed with a knife was the worst way to die, is another story. I dont believe that conversation ever took place but I believe that Shipp could make it sound believable because the people closest to Nicole knew about her knife phobia.
The DAs investigators tried to get Rolf and his wife Maria to testify that they had witnessed O.J. abusing Nicole. Maria worked for O.J. and Nicole on the Rockingham estate as a housekeeper for four years. Rolf worked for O.J. and Nicole as their groundskeeper for three years. In all that time neither of the Baurs saw O.J. do anything that came close to abusing Nicole. When the investigators showed him the picture of Nicoles battered face that Denise said she took after the 89 incident, Rolf told them that Lou Brown took the picture a long time ago.
Statements like these were why the prosecution did not call either of the Baurs as witnesses.
The defense did not call them because Rolf also said that he and O.J. snorted coke together in the early 80s and O.J. once yelled at Nicole for giving him some that cost a lot of money. In other words, Ralf did not slant his statements to help O.J. or to hurt him. As near as I could tell, he simply told the investigators what he recalled the way he recalled it.
I see no problem with Nicole being a good cook and also being pathologically afraid of knives. She always had somebody around to do the slicing and dicing for her her parents, her sisters, her husband, her maid or O.J.s older children.
The stems could have been cut anytime. Lou Brown could have done it at the recital with a sharp pocketknife and any of the Browns could have done it on the 14th when they went to the house to clean up.
The biggest problem with the butcher knife (as opposed to a smaller one) is where it was found and who didnt find it. Officer Riske gave no indication that he saw it when he entered the kitchen with Fuhrman. He talked about seeing a blue jean jacket but not a knife. When Fuhrman left the kitchen, the jacket was gone and the knife was on the counter. Jasper
