Miss Marple,
Now I know who Philpin is. I saw him on the Montel Williams Show about three years ago. His credentials were impressive. I thought that I would learn a lot from him but I was put off by the combination his ignorance of key evidence in the O.J. case and his willingness to shade his profile of the Bundy killer just at tad here and there to fit the current media image of O.J.
Philpin accepted Fuhrman’s story about the ’84 incident and Edwards’ story about the ’89 incident without question. He never saw Fuhrman as the link between both incidents and so much of what he said sounded like Fuhrman’s profile of the killer that I wondered if he didn’t get his profile from Fuhrman’s Murder in Brentwood.
After reading Philpin’s article, I can see that Fuhrman studied Philpin’s published articles before the murders and got his profile for Murder in Brentwood AND Murder in Greenwich from Philpin. What Philpin said about evidence that showed whether the killer was “evidence conscious” really popped out at me. The evidence the killer left behind on Bundy and the evidence that Fuhrman and Roberts “found” on Rockingham fit the profile of a killer who was not evidence conscious – a rage killer.
My daughter-in-law Sherry was visiting me at the time Philpin did his thing. She hadn’t followed the O.J. case that closely and I got the impression from talking about it with her that leaned toward the opinion that O.J. was guilty. But when Philpin starting rattling off a long list of characteristics that he said matched O.J. and the killer, Sherry put her hand to her chest and said, “That sound’s like Fuhrman.”
Sherry was right. EVERYTHING Philpin said about the psychological profile of the Bundy killer matched Fuhrman. Only the things that we know are not true about O.J. matched O.J. Philpin should have known but he didn’t. Now I don’t know what to think about his psychological profile of the Moxley killer because I don’t know how much of the essential facts he got right. –Jasper
