Charlotte,
Looks like you have less time to wait that you thought.
A few hours ago I got a phone call from a representative of the Public Safety Institute in Orlando. He asked me if I was affiliated with a law enforcement agency. I told him that I wasn’t, an answer that we both knew he could have easily surmised from my registration form and my Smartfellows Press home page.
He apologized for not making it clear that only law enforcement professional were invited to the seminar – a condition that he said the speakers insisted on before they agreed to speak. The terms, as he described them, left no possible way for ME to attend.
Has a familiar ring to it, doesn’t it?
The PSI spokesman said that he would be sure to make the EXCLUSIONARY provision clear on future brochures and return my check and my application. He asked me if I wanted him to include my name on a “public” guest list if this event went well. I declined. If I had insisted on attending, I don’t see any legal way he could have stopped me. I also don’t see anybody but me being in the lecture hall when I arrived.
Any lawyers out there who care to take this up? –Jasper
