LA man arrested for allegedly carrying box cutter on airplane
The Associated Press PHOENIX (AP) - A Los Angeles man was arrested here Friday for allegedly carrying a box cutter on an airplane, FBI officials said. Philip Walker Goldman, 49, was detained after an America West Airlines plane touched down at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at 12:55 p.m.
The U.S. Attorney's Office charged him with one count of bringing a dangerous weapon aboard an aircraft, which is a federal felony. He was held at the Madison Street Jail in Phoenix.
The flight crew had reported Goldman was acting erratically on board.
Flight officials notified law enforcement, and Goldman was detained when the plane landed.
"Flight attendants and passengers are a lot more aware of their surroundings now," said Suzanne Luber, Transportation Safety Administration spokeswomen. "That is just an additional layer of security."
