The manipulating of West LA could have started before the 911 tape got passed around.
I’m thinking about the fact that Fuhrman and Phillips worked together in the West LA station when Fuhrman started the rumors about his affaire with Nicole. On the surface, it looks like boasting about sex. But the effect was to establish believable credentials for Fuhrman’s claim that Nicole told him about O.J.’s “continuing abuse.” On page 108 of Murder in Brentwood Fuhrman writes this about Phillips: “Ron is more than a friend – he is like the big brother I never had… We were so much alike that it scared even us.” If that’s not a man that Fuhrman would tell about “his affaire” with O.J.’s ex, no one was.
It also seems to me that the manipulation went all the way to the DA’s office, the search warrant and the unprecedented preservation and timely release of the 911 tape.
In Steven Singular’s Legacy of Deception he say that Fuhrman told his Nicole and O.J. stories to his buddies, at a cop bar. He told them about Nicole’s fear that O.J. was going to kill her. In Joe Bosco’s A Problem of Evidence he talks about Assistant District Attorney Lucianne Coleman’s discovery of Fuhrman’s swastika stunt with Andy Purdy. Then he writes (page 200), “But it wasn’t until another police officer mentioned that Fuhrman talked about ‘Nicole’s boob job’ at a party well before the murders that Coleman was moved to act.” On page 197 Bosco says of Coleman, a former close friend of Marcia Clark, “It doesn’t surprise me that the police would call Marcia specifically. She’s friendly with the cops. She would sit and drink with them?”…Sit where?
Marcia’s special bond with cops who wrote bad search warrants got her invited to the Rockingham crime scene. Marcia was new to the Special Crimes Task Force and took step down in rank to get there. The number one prosecutor in the O.J. case before the 911 tape was released, was Marcia’s “constant companion” David Conn (Evidence Dismissed, page 5). Release of the tape got Conn fired and put Marcia in charge.
Remember Cheri Lewis, who argued that the Laura Hart McKinny tapes should not come into evidence? Here’s something else from Evidence Dismissed to think about…
(Page 200, the paragraph after Coleman talks about telling Marcia of Fuhrman’s alleged affair with Nicole and Marcia’s angry outburst that it was “bullshit coming from the defense”…). “At that moment Cheri Lewis walked in,” Ms. Coleman remembers. “She wanted to talk about ‘press requests’ for Nicole’s 911 tape. I wondered why she was handling a matter like that—another deputy usually did that, and Cheri was a bit to qualified for the job.”
The job Lewis was qualified for was the job she eventually did, damage control for the tapes that Marcia didn’t want released. Coincidence? I don’t think so. -- Jasper
