Jasper.

You say "The killer had to make mistakes." And that those covering for him made mistakes too. Indeed they did. The huffing and puffing in Phillips testimony is evident, even more so in his civil trial testimony. In the criminal trial Clark is clearly uncomfortable questioning Phillips and she should be.

We were talking before about how Clark for some reason was trying to hide fuhrman from the Grand Jury and succeded. That somehow the fuhrman notes surfaced and that she had to call him to testify in the prelims. That Roberts somehow managed to go unquestioned throughout the whole process, including the Civil trial.

What I just realized is that Phillips not only didn't testify before the Grand Jury, he also didn't testify in the prelims, where fuhrman made such a stellar performance. Then there were questions about fuhrman's integrity and somehow that had to be adressed. I think the only reason that Clark called Phillips in the Criminal trial was to say that fuhrman was never alone, that he couldn't have planted evidence. If he wasn't next to fuhrman, fuhrman was in the back with a uniform or in the front with a uniform and so on and so on. He is covering up for fuhrman. That was how Clark used Phillips.

Why she tried to hide him before that, I don't know. Did she know something about fuhrman - Roberts - Phillips?

And then in the midst of this covering up you realize from his testimony that Phillips was actually running the show that morning at Rockingham. Who knocked on Kato's door? Phillips! (but didn't hear the answer to his question about O.J., he says). Who knocked on Arnelle's door? Phillips! (but didn't hear her answer to his question about O.J. he says). Who called Cathy Randa? Phillips! Who called O.J. in Chicago? Phillips! Who called the coroner's office? Phillips!

What were Vanatter and Lange doing, who was in charge?

So maybe we should look a little harder at Phillips.

Miss Marple

And the biggest question of all, why did Phillips call fuhrman to duty, when fuhrman was not on call that night?
