Miss Marple,

I did not know that Officer Involved Shooting was part of Robbery/Homicide Division. The only reference I had to OIS was in Evidence Dismissed where Phillips introduces Vannatter to Fuhrman on Bundy (page 10): “…Vannatter had heard Fuhrman’s name in passing. Several months earlier, during a three-on-three basketball game between Homicide Special (another name for RHD?) and the LAPD Officer Involved Shooting Section. Lieutenant Bill Hall of OIS had mentioned that he was trying to hire a detective from the West LA Division who was also ‘damn good basketball player.’ When Vannatter asked who, Hall Replied, ‘Mark Fuhrman.’”

From these remarks it looks as though Hall went after Fuhrman and not the other way around, although there is no telling who instigated the request. I don’t think that Fuhrman wanted to get into OIS but I was sure that he wanted to get into RHD. Do you think that I could have I confused the two departments because of the basketball game context (Vannatter of RHD playing basketball)?

Anyhow, you are probably right about the reason that Fuhrman was tuned down for the OIS job. No way could he have been accepted with the Britton case on his record, much less with the lawsuit hanging over his head. --Jasper
