John Pavelic was one of the PI’s hired by Bob Shapiro. He was definitely on O.J.’s side. He was the one who found the paper trails leading to Fuhrman’s history of excessive violence and racial animus.
Pavelic’s mistake with Rosa Lopez was in assuming that it took at least 15 minutes for her to do all of the things she said she did after she looked at the clock and took the dog outside near the big tree on Rockingham where she saw O.J.’s Bronco. That’s how Johnnie Cochran came to say in his opening remarks that a witness (Rosa Lopez) saw the Bronco at 10:15 on the 12th parked exactly the way it was found on the 13th.
F. Lee Bailey’s PI was Pat McKenna. He discovered the timing error when he interviewed Lopez and saw her doing in 3 minutes all of the things Pavelic assumed would take 15 minutes to do. That’s when the Pavelic tape became an issue. The prosecution did not have that tape and some of the information the defense was using was not on the McKenna tape that the defense turned over to the prosecution.
I think that the confusion with Bailey’s PI come in with Natalie Singer’s testimony (Sep 5). Bailey is examining Singer about her experience with Fuhrman and he mentions McKenna as a person she contacted for the defense. Right after that he asks her who she contacted for the prosecution. She said Anthony Pellicano.
Pellicano is the one who went to bat for Fuhrman later on. I believe that Pellicano’s name came up in connection to organized crime and the Foster case. I don’t recall the specifics. –Jasper
