Notice that Kato says that GiGi is in the outside room off and on and OJ says she stays inside during the week.
Perhaps that is it. When he isn't home she stays inside the house and if he is home on the weekend, she stays in the outside room.
GiGi was young and close to her (foreign) family who may have had their ideas about what their daughter should do while living and working for an unmarried man. Perhaps, it depended on whether OJ was home where she stayed.
But there IS a maid's room inside the house that GiGi used.
