Rose,
Gigi DID have a room in the main house were it says “maid’s room” on the chart. Of course she did. She was the maid. It was her room. There was never a question about that and there is no conflict in the testimony of Gigi, Arnelle, O.J. or Kao. No one ever contradicted Kato’s testimony that she sometimes stayed in the guesthouse next to Arnelle and Jeffrey Toobin confirmed it in The Run of His Life (page 38): “On the way they passed the third guesthouse, it belonged to the housekeeper, Gigi Guarin….”
You have to play close attention to the lawyers’ games that were being played in the precise phrasing of their questions. The key passage with Cochran and Gigi was before the one you quoted. Cochran asked Gigi if she had “a room IN the premises there” (he was talking about her duties in the main house). No one asked Gigi if she had ANOTHER room on the ESTATE, or if she ever stayed in the last guesthouse, or if she had taken over her “work quarters” as well as her “private quarters” from Michelle. No one asked Arnelle where Gigi stayed and O.J. specified that Gigi stayed in the maid’s room DURING THE WEEK. The issue with the detectives’ line of travel on the 12 was where she was most likely to be on a weekend.
You get a different answer from Kato because he was asked a different question. He was the only witness ever asked the specific question, “Who was living in the main house and in the guest units?” –Jasper
