Micelle was fulltime. She lived on Rockingham. Gigi had a husband and kids that she went home to every day after work. That came out clearly in the transcripts. However O.J. did ask her to stay over when he went out of town and he was out of town most of the time that she worked there. That’s why she called from Knott’s Berry Farm around 8:00 on the 12th to ask O.J. if it was all right for her to stay there with her family and return to Rockingham the next day. Normally, she would have been there but it wasn’t that big a deal because O.J. just wanted someone on the property when he was gone. Arnelle was out with her friends and O.J. knew that she would be back soon after he left.
Gigi was in no danger of being killed at Rockingham. If the noise was necessary to give Fuhrman an excuse to go where the glove was, her room would have been the target and he would have needed her to report it. The glove – both gloves if O.J. hadn’t cut himself – would have been found behind her room. We also would have gotten a scenario of how it got there that made more sense than the one we got with the air conditioner protruding from Kato’s bathroom window. We wouldn’t be talking about O.J. bumping into something in a panic without bruising himself and dropping the gloves without realizing it. We would be talking about him going out of his way to hide them. A strategically positioned object that O.J. could have slipped on or tripped over would explain the noise.
However, no mysterious noise would have been necessary with Gigi in the last guesthouse if the detectives where going there to check on her welfare (or to get access to the main house). Fuhrman could have simply invented a piece of wind-blown trash near the corner of the Bungalow and “happened to see the gloves” when he was chasing it down. His penchant for noting things that were out of place and his reputation for paying attention to details that everyone else missed, would have explained his behavior. On the other hand, if Gigi had heard the thumps, O.J. would have taken her seriously and he would have looked more concerned when Park showed up. Either way, Gigi would have been the focus of the plan.
Arnelle wasn’t at home and there was no way of predicting where Kato would be at the right time. The essence of planning is learning what to expect and being flexible enough to change to fit changing conditions that you didn’t expect. No one could have expected Gigi NOT to be at Rockingham on the night of the 12th.
You hit the nail on the head with Kato AND Arnelle. Both of them would have expected Gigi to be in her room. That’s why the place she stayed when O.J. was out of town is so important. Neither of them would have directed the detectives to the “maid’s room” inside the house and the detectives would have certainly asked where they could find her just to cover their butts. Ask yourself why they walked past the third bungalow instead of stopping? Because they had what they wanted in Arnelle – access to the house. –Jasper
