I had a good reason for not reading Eliot’s book when it came out and the reason stands.
How do we know that Kato implied ANYTHING through Marc Eliot? We don’t. Kato did not give his okay to the book so we have no way of knowing what came from him and what came from Eliot.
The bit about Michelle having been involved with the Israeli army, for instance, may or may not be true but on the face of it, it looks like a red herring. The only description I have of Michelle that gives an indication of her ethnicity comes from the testimony of Officer John Edwards who spoke to her and saw her during the ’89 incident. He recognized her as being the person he spoke to on the speaker by her voice and her accent. She looked to him like a Filipino.
Granted, Edwards might have been wrong is his assessment of her accent and her appearance. Granted, even if she was born to Filipino parents and lived in the Philippines long enough to acquire a Filipino accent she may have been somehow linked to the Israelis. However, it sound more like something you would get from never having seen her or talked to her and associating her name (Abudrahn) and the name of her good fried who was also a maid (Feldman) with the Middle East. It’s just more trouble than it’s worth to try to figure out how much weight to give to things like that. The more of it there is, the more trouble you can get into. I trust you, Lollie, and Rose more than I trust myself to deal with those issues.
The last thing I want to do is fill my head with “tidbits of information and gossip about people.”
About ten years ago a friend of mine named Terry Bivens reacted strongly when I told him something funny I’d read in the National Enquire. He told me that he used to read thinks like that sometimes for fun but that he would NEVER do it again. His story went something like this….
