I respect your reasons for valuing Eliot’s book. And I don’t trust Edward’s impression of Michelle’s ethnicity any more than you do, for the same reason. It’s just that the defense had a chance to correct him, if he was wrong but never did and I had no more to go on
I also understood the implication of Michelle having a military background. However, she could just as easily have been a tough little lady who got backed into a corner. My guess is that Nicole was still intoxicated when she got into it with Michelle and Michelle caught her off guard by attacking first, screaming and flailing away. I think that Nicole was also at a disadvantage with the phone line open and Michelle could unload on her while Nicole was scrambling to hang it up.
At that point, Nicole had to know that the police were a bigger threat to her than Michelle. Nicole was the aggressor. She pursed Michelle. She was in Michelle’s living quarters. She could have been arrested for assault.
Considering where the fight between the women started, where it ended and the length of time between the call to 911 and the hang-up – I think O.J. followed Nicole on her SECOND trip to the guesthouse and intervened before either woman was seriously hurt. I don’t think that Michelle would have gotten the better of the bigger, stronger woman if the fight had continued for long. I’m not even convinced that she did.
Neither Edwards nor his rookie partner Patricia Milewski checked Michelle for injuries. If they were the same kind of superficial injuries that Nicole had they wouldn’t have noticed them unless they looked at her up close. The big red knot on Nicole’s forehead (which I no longer believe she got when O.J. wrestled her out of their bedroom) didn’t become prominent until later in the day. –Jasper
