The point I was trying to make is that I think Nicole’s religion did influence her decisions about sex, which has important implications about the way she looked at her marriage. The fact that two of her sisters bore children out of wedlock could stem from the same religious conflicts; no contraceptives but different decisions about the “oops.” Then again, how can anyone know that they didn’t have abortions or wouldn’t have under different circumstances?
I don’t know of anyone who obeys all the rules of his or her religion. Some Protestants have statues of Jesus or Buddha in their homes (both are forbidden). Some Jews and Moslems eat bacon. Almost everybody does something sexually that’s against the rules.
For Catholics it’s against the rules to get a divorce, yet many Catholics do. The question is whether they FEEL as though they can ever be truly divorced in the eyes of God and how that feeling influences their behavior.
For most of us the intimate details of our sexual lives are private and they don’t have anything to do with solving a mystery. Nicole flaunted at least one aspect of her intimate sex life, which could have everything to do with her relationship with Michelle and all the consequences that flow from how they felt about each other and why. It also gives us a way to figure out whether it was more or less likely that Jean’s hypothesis is correct.
Every problem has a key to its solution. The form of sex that Nicole practiced with O.J. and the form of sex she practiced with other men could be the key to whether she wanted to get back with O.J. to enjoy a full married life with him and their children or to take him for every penny she could get. There is evidence both ways. Maybe it’s because her intensions weren’t settled and she wanted to keep her options open. Maybe its because we just don’t have enough facts to go farther than rank speculation. –Jasper
