It wasn’t that big a deal for me. For some reason I get long blackouts in my neighborhood once or twice a year. The big difference for me was that I couldn’t jump in my car a drive to a movie or restaurant to pass the time or sit under a light in a Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot and catch up on my reading.
During the blackout I got my information from the radio in my car.
The power company asked everyone not to turn on their air conditioners on until full power was restored to all of its customers. I turned on the television as saw the Fox 2 news people looking like they were playing their part. The anchorman had his necktie off, his shirt unbuttoned and his sleeves rolled up. The anchorwoman sitting next to him wore a light summer dress. Both news people were perspiring slightly under the hot studio lights. Their hair, of course, was perfect. I started laughing as soon as I saw them, grimly talking about the power “crisis.” Actually, it was just a widespread pain in the ass.
Then I heard this voiceover as the station flashed action shots of its reporters on the scene of various black-out related events: “Fox 2, the first TV station to bring you all the news on the blackout as it happened.” –Jasper
