The BEST story is the couple who had their nice new shiney house. The husband a big tech guy and all for Modern tech in the home.

He FORGOT that in a power outage that his Completely Electric house and Completely computerized house would not WORK. Even his showers in the bathroom would not work because they were on computers. I understand the wife wasn't even speaking to the husband. They, over course had to leave their home and go elsewhere.

Also, another thing that people learned was those so fascinated with 'Open" concept homes found that they are hard as hell to heat with the fireplace because there is NO way you can block off the living room and keep the heat in the room. That heat that did get into the room was immediately lost in the 15 to 25 foot high ceilings.

Also, it was learned that many young or even "modern" families who depended on the electric blanket didn't have any "extra" blankets in the house. Those of us who have old blankets and quilts that are older than dirt still lying around or in the closets--fared better.

Best advice--Think ahead. Plan ahead. Give it a litle thought.
