They dont have to be new shoes but the lumps you see in them are what mark them as expensive. It makes them look handcrafted out of unusually soft material. Bruno Magli Lorenzos had a suede finish. The ones in McElroys photo appear to have a leather gloss. They could have been retouched, too.
I doubt that McElroy was stupid enough to photograph shoes for distribution (with his name on the photo) that were identical to the ones in the photo attributed to E.J. Flammer. Moreover, they dont have to be exactly like those in Flammer's photos to do the job. They just have to have the right identifying characteristics to stand up under expert scrutiny. In other words, McElroys shoes had to be similar enough to be identified as Bruno Magli Lorenzos but different enough for him to claim that they were not the shoes in the Flammer photos.
The beauty of digital retouching is that you can get any color or texture you want if you have a good model to begin with. The shoes in McElroys photos are PERFECT models. Jasper
