The money, especially the amount, fits with O.J.'s story. Evidence Dismissed (pg. 97) describes an incident where O.J. is asking the detectives about a cache of money hidden in the closet. They say he will get "inventory of anything we seize." I don't think a cache of money in the closet would have been covered by the search warrant. The at least nine guns in the closet were not seized. On Pg. 21, An American Tragedy, the story is from O.J. and is similar to Vanatter/Lange. The one common thing is the amount. Later as close to $10 000 from Clark. From O.J.'s memory the amount was "at least $8000", and yes, it was from golf bets.
O.J. also gave Barbiari some cash before the Bronco chase. And I don't think O.J. did much shopping between the 13th and the 17th. So possibly the money found on A.C. on June 17 was the money that O.J. had kept in a cashe in his closet and when finding police searching everything in his house, had decided to put in his pocket.
I travel a lot, as did O.J. and it is my habit to always carry my passport in my purse. Easier that way.
As to the "disguise", it only worked with Clark's very early scenario; the knife, bought weeks before the murders, the disguise, bought weeks before the murders. Together with the "escape money" these three items should have canceled each other out when the prosecution changed their charge from "lying in wait" (death penalty)to "rage killing".
