This is what throws me….
During the investigation and of Tommy Skakel in ’75 and ’76 and the trial of Michel in 2002, nobody gave the simple explanation for more than one club being left outside that you just gave and nobody could say what happened to them.
One of the biggest weaknesses in the defense argument that Michel didn’t commit the murders was their suggestion that one of the Skakel kids or thier frineds MIGHT HAVE left the six-iron outside after a lawn party weeks earlier. They argued that someone else must have came along on Devil's night, found the club and used it to kill Martha. They did not attempt to explain why ONE club from the same set was found in a storage bin in the house. It had to have been easily accessible to the police because they did not have a search warrant and they found it without doing a thorough search.
This is what led me to believe that the head of the six-iron was intentionally left on the murder scene and the four-iron was intentionally left in the house to implicate one of the Skakels – either Tommy or Michael. Bryant’s story about his Bronx friends doesn’t cover those two clubs. If one of the boys hit Martha hard enough to break the club into three pieces, he had to know that the head was on the ground outside. Why would the boys then drag Martha’s body around, beat her three more times, turn her around to stab her in the throat with the handle portion of the shaft a half hour later, turn her body face down again, pull down her panties and then take the OTHER clubs? It doesn’t add up.
The Greenwich police undoubtedly did a bad job. They had no experience in homicide investigations (that’s why to Detroit homicide investigators were eventually called in) but they weren’t stupid. They eliminated Michael as a suspect because he had an alibi for the time of death they established from neighbor reports of the barking dogs at 10:50 (not at 10:30 as Fuhrman claims in his movie). They targeted Tommy because he was the last person to be seen with Martha, he didn’t have an alibi and the four-iron with Ann Skakel’s name on the handle was found in his house. If they believed that Tommy did it, the simple answer for the missing clubs was that the family rounded them up to protect Tommy and simply missed one. Bryant’s story changes everything. --Jasper
