I bought Fuhrman’s Murder in Brentwood with a long list of things I wanted to see to test my guess that he would try to hide them (guilty knowledge). I was looking for things that weren’t there but should have been, things like his alibi, some mention of his I.H. Scout, a reasonable explanation for the blood drops on Rockingham, etc. I believed that Fuhrman was the killer, that he used a German Stiletto like the one Marcia presented in court with a blade that corresponded to the longest stabbing wound in Ron’s body and the hammer-like butt that matched the blunt force wound on the right rear of Nicole’s head. I was MOST interested in what Fuhrman would NOT say about the weapon that bashed Nicole’s skull in. He said nothing about that – zip, zero.
Hold on, I’m getting to the missing blood splatter…
Fuhrman argued that the missing weapon was not a German Stiletto with a 6.5” blade, but a Swiss Army knife with a 3.5” blade. He made a convincing argument. As I studied Ron Goldman’s autopsy report I could see that Fuhrman was right on every point he laid out in meticulous detail except for stabbing wound that went through Ron’s neck on one side and nipped his ear on the other.
The weapon that killed Ron had to be a Swiss Army knife like the one Fuhrman illustrated in his book. It was probably the weapon that the killer used to slit Nicole’s throat. You have to know what the butt of that knife looks like at the proper angel to realize what a formidable pounding weapon it is. Fuhrman’s drawing tilts it just so to make it appear harmless – certainly less harmful than the blade. He shows as photograph of the blade (page 200) but no photo of the butt. You have to know a particular military technique fore taking out two people quickly and easily from behind that was taught in the Army and the Marines in the ‘60s and ‘70s to know how important the but end of a knife like the German Stiletto is to making the double kill.
I have always argued that I KNOW the Bundy killer used that technique. I have also argued that the killer had a lookout who came into the gate when Fuhrman was enjoying him self with taunting and torturing Ron and the partner stepped in the blood (Fuhrman: “Hey! Hey! Hey!”). I have argued that the killer positioned Nicole’s body just right to hide the second set of shoeprints and drew lines through the blood to make it flow where he wanted it to go (I think he drew the heart on the killer’s shoeprint heel).
The bottom line here is that once Nicole was unconscious the killer could do whatever he wanted to with Ron. Once Ron was dead he could do anything he wanted to direct the gush of blood from Nicole’s neck so he could put it where he wanted it to cover unwanted shoeprints and to minimize the signs of splatter. That’s why I say the “defensive” wounds on her hands were put there deliberately by the killer because he knocked her out right after he knocked Ron silly and slit his throat (2 seconds max).
You’re right, Charlie. There SHOULD have been more signs of splatter than there were. The fact that it isn’t visible “explains” why such little blood was in the Bronco. –Jasper
