I think we need to remember she was brutally murdered, that is a very tramatic event in one's life, there would have been alot of fear. Im sure if we have thought about someone having a key to her place they certainly did! Under the circumstances the best plan motivated by fear may have been to change the locks for security and get everything out of there as fast as possible so they didnt have to return there again. My experience in life has shown me that not everyone is the same in grief, and with a brutal homicide Im sure you would be driven with multiple fears.
