I think that you are correct on all counts.
The timeline gave me fits. Every time I tried to follow Nicole from the recital to the murder scene I ran into a wall where precise times could have been established but weren’t. The same thing happened when I tried to follow Ron from the restaurant to the murder scene.
Two names came up repeatedly in running interference on an accurate timeline: Marcia Clark and Fuhrman’s partner Brand Roberts. It wasn’t that they consistently did things to set the clock back; the killer and one or two anonymous phone callers did that. Clark and Roberts simple mangled the timeline so badly that it takes hundreds of hours of dedicated work to straighten it out.
They stretched time unnecessarily with some witness and compressed time with others to the point that it was impossible for all of them to have done what they said they did, what they said they saw, what they said they heard or what the records indicated. They did it with defense witnesses. They did it with their own witnesses. They did it with witnesses they didn’t call and hard evidence they either didn’t present or didn’t collect. You can’t blame the defense for not cleaning up all of this mess from June of ’94 to February of ’96. It has been over NINE YEARS known and we’re still working on it.
I tried hard to follow the prosecution’s 10:15 to 10:23 start time for the killing. At every point where the killer could have laid down false marker for that timeline or the witnesses could have simply gotten it wrong, that’s where Marcia connected the dots for her timeline. Where the timeline of independent witnesses meshed and there were real clocks to peg it to, the start time for the killing shifted to sometime after 10:30.
The issues that Charlie brought up about Ron’s keys and Andrea Scott’s car reinforces the other evidence of a deliberate attempt to create a false early timeline to give O.J. time to do everything the evidence says he did – all of which was tainted. –Jasper
