Asking what the speed limit was on the CA highways (interstates) was a good idea.
I looked it up and the repeal of the 55 MPH (mandated) speed limit did not happen until 1995.
So the speed limits on the interstates would have been 55 MpH in 1994. (less on regular roads)
I will give you an example of what difference it makes. In Tenn. when it was repealed, the 55 mph went back up to 70 mph---something that you don't find in most states. It was high before and back again to high. In Ky.--it went up to 65 mph--what it was before the law.
If the speed limit in CA in 94 was 55 mph--someone driving as fast as the Browns would have had to do, would have stuck out like a sore thumb.
I will try and find out what they are now in CA but Kari could tell us immediately. Junot too.
When I did my 75 miles trip as an experiment (on just an interstate and no other roads) I did it driving 75+ every second of the way and sometimes more. I made it in exactly an hour...on the dot.
The Browns would have had to travel at least 20 to 25 miles an hour over the speed limit every second of the time and more to make up for the town traffic from the Mezz to the interstate and the interstate to Dana Point.
Something to think about.
