Jasper, Some very good observations that I generally agree with--what I don't is just academic and not really all that important.
Reading what you said reminded me that Judy told Bobby K's ex-wife on the phone that AM (Am Trad.) that she had a lunch date with Nicole that day. So, it seems that Judy was coming in the next day. Was this because that Judy was going to have to come back the next day--to bring Denise--when she had not planned to do so.
I would bet these plans were made over the glasses in the later conversation---as Judy told ex Mrs. K that she was to get the glasses at that time. At some point--the return of the glasses were discussed with Nicole--unless Judy is telling her whoppers again.
And think on this. Judy said she believed that Denise thought she was mad at HER. There had to be a reason FOR Denise to perhaps believe that. It was NOT that Denise thought she was mad at Nicole.
Could it be that Denise caused a scene, got uninvited to stay at Nicole's, and stole the glasses to pave the wave for the trip back to LA the next day. To go get her glasses, Judy would feel better about having to come back and besides that she could have lunch with Nicole.
Could it be that Denise deliberately caused a scene that resulted in her not staying over? It wouldn't have to have anything to do with any plans that Nicole had for later that night. After all, Judy wasn't allegedly mad at Nicole for changing the plans.
Denise gets ugly when drinking. If she -when Nicole had him over to the table to introduce him--made fun of him to Nicole and in front of the group---that would do it.
