Ron may have well put off going to Nicole's until the kids where fast asleep.
I had one kid that would be fast asleep as soon as she went to bed if not before. I had another that would have woken up, if asleep, if she heard a noise in the first hour or so after going to bed.
We know that they would not have been in bed before their friend left after 9:30.
