Jasper, I think you are now on the same page with the rest of us who have gone around and around with you about this for some time.
There is something terribly wrong about that phone bill. It is either out and out incorrect or is incomplete.
The 937 call is more than likely a message left on the machine. The call to the Mezz is God only what. (the waitress was guessing at the time remember--she was testifying basically on what she was told and a general idea of what was going on around her). The same for Nicole's call. She only recalled it was a short time afterwards.
Since Lou has made public remarks about arriving at home to the phone ringing and it was Nicole saying she was home now--which sounds like she got the message and was returning their message. This was close to the time of the murders and before the DA's got to them.
From that phone bill all you get is a few calls the morning of the 13th that are extremely short and many appear to be messages being left rather than a real conversation.
Even with the call to the Mezz, the call is way too short to have had all the conversation and the looking for the glasses and more conversation that the waitress and Judy say that there was.
Could Lou have made it home by 937-yes--if they left way earlier than 830 and drove like a bat out of hell over the speed limit and thru construction zones. But nobody claimed that they did that--did they?
The times given for them leaving the RESTUARANT are between 830 and 840 --not what time they were in the car, had the kids situated in the back to sleep, buckled in and on their way. Also, Dom had to go get the car from where it was parked. If they were as late as 840 leaving the restuarant, that would leave only 55 minutes to do all that, go the short distance (1.9) to the freeway which the mapping sites says takes 4 minutes alone--and I can believe that because it takes me a minumum of 6 minutes to go the 1.6 miles to work, and then drive to Dana Point, go thru the city to their subdivision, get out and then get into the house, look up the number (from whereever it may be and Judy didn't have her glasses remember to see it) and then call by 937. Also, getting Denise's kid out of the car where he is assumed to be asleep and telling Dom good-bye and her leaving. If you take 4 min. from each end for city travel-you are down to about 50 minutes for a 75 mile trip.
And Judy said at first that they stood outside while the waitress and others were looking for the glasses and then finally they had to leave because it was getting late.
Now, I get to the calls on the 13th. Sure, they may have called at 630 to get hold of a certain cop but that was not the call where Sydney was crying as someone mentioned, because Sydney wasn't there yet. And there friends and relatives all over the US and in Germany. None of these calls show up prior to 12 noon the next day when the bill stops. Did it stop for reasons of just a cutting off point or did it quit because there were no more long distance calls that day?
Since Kris Kardashian Jenner learned of the murder from Judy herself--you would think that there were other people--closer people to Nicole then than Kris Jenner were that Judy would be calling.
ANd it VERY likely that the 10 minute call that Judy spoke of publicly with Nicole originated from one of Nicole's phones.
And I can recall during Dr. J's things reading in a statement that he said that one or more of the calls originated outside of the area code for the Browns. From a number that appeared nowhere in the trial.
It is entirely possible that Judy also had a Watts Line (an 800 number) for business purposes. My great-uncle and his wife have one. They are in the real estate and developing business. I can call that line at any time and get them or leave a message and it is totally FREE to me. They pay a flat fee for it. A Watt's line has been around for positively ages. Certainly in 94. They have been around as long as 800 numbers have been or longer.
Having had 2 lines in the our home from GTE in 94 (and before)--a bill comes for each line. If they are all in the same name--they "may" come together in the same envelope but I doubt it. The envelopes for those bills were regular sized envelopes the size of personal size envelopes.
Another reason they would come separately is the fact that business phones should be kept separate from personal phones--at least in billing as this goes down as a business expense and is paid from the business account and should not in any way be mixed with a personal phone bill.
And yes, a mobile phone is different. What we call a car phone. Many businesses had them prior to cell phones and what many people had prior to cell phones. They were much more popular in 94 than they are now...and were pretty much restricted to car usage unlike cell phone which can be carried around anywhere.
One of the strangest things about the cops saying that they didn't get or couldn't get the phone calls from the local calls is the questioning of the waitress about why she called a certain number (the gym) right after Ron left the Mezz. It was always implied that they not only knew when she called but to what place and she was left to explain it.
And this doesn't even begin to get into what call forwarding can do--which was in fact around in 94.
It has been helpful to me to have a sister who works for then GTE which is now Verizon.
She is the one who told me during the trial that what they said about not being able to get the local calls was a lie.
